Activity - Unit Goals
​(70 mins)

Instructional Procedure
  • Pull up your unit plan and look back over it. Use it as a guide

  • Individual work time (15 mins)
    • Each of these kinds of skills is important. Have you addressed all of them in some way?
    • Start by filling out the ones you feel confident about.
    • Identify each unit goal, then think through how you will scaffold that goal.
    • Brad and I will circulate to help
    • It is okay if you do not finish.

  • Share Out (5 mins)
    • What goals did you address?
    • Why are these particular goals important?

  • Thinking Through a Goal (10 mins)
    • Take one of the goals from the first page and transfer it to the second.
    • Break down that goal - what prior knowledge will be necessary? What will students need to do or know in order to achieve the goal?

  • Share out (5 mins)
    • ​How did you break down your goal?

  • From Goal to Objectives to Activities (25 mins)
    • Split into groups of Math/Science and Lit/Writing/College Prep
    • Together each group will work through the 3rd and 4th sheets. 
    • Start with one person, do a second if you have time.
    • Together, look at that person's work so far. 
    • Together, establish objectives to help reach that goal.
    • Then, utilize the stair chart to help create what the full lesson will look like.

  • Share Out (10 mins)
    • What did your final lesson look like?
    • How did you arrive at these decisions?
    • Were there different opinions on how to reach the goal/structure the lesson?
    • What was difficult about this task?
    • How can we apply this activity to revising our unit and first week's plans?
