The Summerbridge Experience
I learned a lot about being a teen and growing up with myself. I remember the Olympics, wanting to be active in the community, my early influences as a musician, and writing skills that prepared me to become the person I've wanted to. I remember Kaitlyn, and Marisa and them promoting my inner creativity from day one and honestly, I can't be more proud of them for doing that. I recall their voices to this day.
I went to the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts for music and graduated there after attending 4 years. I also volunteered with the Bethlehem Municipal Band for 3 years for graduation requirements. I played trumpet in that band. I also became involved with the DIY music community and started to support local musicians to get more of a root in music and community as a whole. I also recently have started a spoken word project called Sergeevich and have been getting connections to perform for people and hopefully get the opportunity to experience things I'll never get to if I don't travel and play shows for people. I am also going to Pace University for English Language and Literature, with minors in African American Studies and Women's Studies.
My biggest success was definitely learning how to write music and songs and poetry. My voice was a work in progress and finally I've gotten to a point where I can write and make people empathize and feel exactly how the words flow within one another. It's an amazing feeling and it's an honor to be a sphere of influence for someone's emotions at one moment and time. Where my words can take someone back right to a moment where it could have been buried by years of successes and shortcomings alike, that's what really keeps me working at night.
How has Summerbridge helped you in your life?
Academically Summerbridge improved me in science and showed me how incredible the subject is. Since Summerbridge, I thought long about college and how Summerbridge gave me a passion to become a teacher. But Summerbridge improved me the most socially. Socially it made me an outgoing person and a person who can trust others. Thank you so much faculty of Summerbridge!
