Accept and Adapt Part 1

  • In this lesson, we will practice accepting and adapting - two qualities that make for an outstanding teacher.

  • Specifically, when we do this lesson, I want us thinking about how these concepts apply to receiving lesson plan feedback and to our work this summer.

  • This lesson can be utilized to solely teach these social/emotional concepts, or you could pair these SEL concepts with more traditional subject area content.

  • Below the lesson plan for today's lesson, you will see this plan if I were to use it in a social studies classroom. You can see in that lesson how I connect the SEL concepts with subject area content, and you can see how I extend learning for homework.

  • SOMEONE REMIND ME - WE WILL KEEP OUR BUILDS FOR TOMORROW'S GALLERY WALK ACTIVITY

Accept and Adapt Part 2

Activity - Draw and Pass
  • Everyone will get a piece of paper and some art supplies at random. You cannot trade or share your supplies.

  • Your challenge is to draw an animal - any animal you want - any style you want.

  • When I say pass, you need to pass your own drawing to the left.

  • You have to continue to work on the piece that has been passed to you.

  • You cannot sit without doing anything - you must add something.

  • You cannot scribble or otherwise obscure the image - you must build on it or around it.

  • An important thing you must accept - no matter how much you love your drawing, you have to give it up and know that it will not turn out how you imagined it might. We have to accept that your original idea will change. It could be something you love or not.
